What is a Rage Room?

Your complete guide to rage rooms, smash therapy, and the most fun way to relieve stress (and yes, it's totally safe!)

So... What Exactly IS a Rage Room?

A rage room (also called a smash room, anger room, or destruction therapy room) is a safe, controlled space where you can smash, break, and destroy things to your heart's content. No judgement, no cleanup, just pure cathartic destruction.

Think of it as therapy... but way more fun and way less talking. You get to take out all your stress, frustration, or pent-up energy on plates, glasses, electronics, and other breakable items while wearing full safety gear.

At Rage Out Maidstone, we've created the ultimate smashing experience. Whether you've had a rough week at work, need a unique team-building activity, or just want to see what it feels like to demolish a printer with a baseball bat (spoiler: it's AMAZING), we've got you covered.

How Does a Rage Room Work?

Never been to a rage room before? Here's exactly what happens from the moment you arrive:

Step 1: You Arrive & Check In

Come to Rage Out at 89 Bank Street in Maidstone. We recommend arriving 15 minutes before your booking to get checked in and go through a quick safety briefing.

Step 2: Get Geared Up

We provide ALL the safety equipment you'll need:

  • Full-body coveralls (because things get messy!)
  • Safety helmet with face shield (protect that gorgeous face)
  • Thick protective gloves (no cuts or scratches)
  • Closed-toe shoes (you should already have these on)

Once you're suited up, you'll look like a slightly intimidating cross between a superhero and a hazmat worker. Very cool.

Step 3: Choose Your Weapon

Oh yes, weapons. We've got:

  • Baseball bats (classic choice)
  • Sledgehammers (for when you mean business)
  • Crowbars (surprisingly satisfying)
  • Golf clubs (Fore!... destroy!)

Pro tip: Start with a baseball bat if it's your first time. Work your way up to the sledgehammer.

Step 4: Choose Your Soundtrack

Every rage room at Rage Out has a speaker connected to Spotify. Want to smash things to heavy metal? Done. Prefer some aggressive hip-hop? Go for it. Want to ironically destroy a TV to Taylor Swift? Hey, we don't judge.

You can use one of our curated playlists or bring your own public Spotify playlist (minimum 30 minutes).

Step 5: SMASH EVERYTHING

This is the good part. Enter your rage room, and for the next however-many-minutes you've booked, you get to absolutely demolish everything in sight.

Plates? SMASH. Glasses? DESTROY. Old electronics? OBLITERATE. Feel your stress melting away with every satisfying crack and crash.

Step 6: We Clean Up

When your time's up (trust us, it goes fast), you hand back your gear and leave all the mess for us. You walk out feeling lighter, happier, and oddly satisfied. We handle all the cleanup and recycling.

But Wait... Is a Rage Room Safe?

YES! Safety is our number one priority (followed closely by maximum destruction and fun).

Safety Equipment

We provide professional-grade safety equipment for every participant:

  • Impact-resistant helmets with full face shields
  • Heavy-duty coveralls to protect your clothes and skin
  • Thick protective gloves
  • All equipment is cleaned and inspected after every session

Room Design

Our rage rooms are purpose-built for safe destruction:

  • Reinforced walls and floors
  • Proper ventilation systems
  • Emergency stop buttons
  • Staff monitoring (we keep an eye out, but give you space)

Insurance Requirements

Our insurance has one key rule: maximum 2 people inside a rage room at any time. If you book as a group of 3, you'll operate as a "tag room" - one person waits outside while two smash, then you rotate. Everyone still gets their full smashing time!

Age & Height Requirements

To ensure everyone's safety:

  • Rage Rooms: Minimum age 8 AND minimum height 1.2m (3'11")
  • Axe Throwing: Minimum age 8 AND minimum height 1.4m (4'7")
  • NO EXCEPTIONS - we may ask for ID
  • Under 18s: Some weapons not available

What You Can't Bring

For safety reasons, we don't allow:

  • Paint or liquids (gets messy in the wrong way)
  • Aerosols or pressurized containers
  • Items with batteries still in them
  • CRT TVs (old big-back ones - too dangerous)
  • Microwaves, fridges, or anything with coolant
  • Power tools
  • Furniture

If you're unsure whether something is safe to bring, just ask us!

What Can You Smash in a Rage Room?

Oh, so many things. SO many satisfying things.

Standard Rage Room Includes:

  • Plates (ceramic dinner plates are surprisingly cathartic)
  • Glasses and cups
  • Vases and ornaments
  • Picture frames
  • Mirrors (7 years bad luck? More like 7 minutes of awesome)
  • Flat screen TVs and printers (subject to availability)
  • Various breakable items (we rotate stock regularly)

Bring Your Own (BYO) Option:

Got something specific you want to destroy? Our BYO rage room option lets you bring your own smashables:

  • Cups, plates, glasses (go wild at the charity shop first)
  • Electronics - as long as batteries are removed
  • Anything you can reasonably carry yourself
  • Must meet our safety guidelines (see restrictions above)

Heads up: We're a 5-minute walk from the nearest car park, so factor that in when deciding what to bring. If staff refuse an item for safety reasons, you'll need to take it back with you.

Pro Destruction Tips:

  • Electronics are the most satisfying (keyboards explode nicely)
  • Ceramic plates give a great "smash" sound
  • Glass items sparkle beautifully when they shatter
  • Save the big items (like TVs) for when you're warmed up

Who is a Rage Room For?

Short answer: Pretty much everyone over 8 years old.

Long answer: Rage rooms are perfect for...

Stress Relief

Had a tough week? Frustrating day? Just need to let off some steam? A rage room is therapeutic destruction. No talking, no analyzing, just pure physical release. (And yes, it's way more fun than a stress ball.)

Team Building

Nothing bonds a team quite like collectively destroying a printer that jammed one too many times. Rage rooms are brilliant for corporate team building - they're memorable, hilarious, and everyone leaves energized.

Celebrations

Birthday parties, stag dos, hen parties, or just because it's Friday - rage rooms make any celebration more interesting. Plus, imagine the Instagram content.

Date Night (Seriously)

Couples who smash together... stay together? Maybe. Definitely more exciting than another dinner and a movie.

Anger Management

While we're not therapists, many people find rage rooms helpful for processing anger in a safe, controlled way. Beats punching walls or screaming into pillows.

Just For Fun

Honestly? You don't need a reason. Sometimes you just want to hit stuff with a baseball bat, and that's totally valid.

Sessions typically last 15-30 minutes of smashing time, plus time to get geared up and briefed. Trust us, 15 minutes of non-stop destruction is more tiring than you think!

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a bit dusty, and closed-toe shoes (trainers are perfect). We provide coveralls over your clothes.

Can I bring my own music?

Absolutely! Each room has Spotify. Bring a public playlist (minimum 30 minutes) or use one of ours.

Do I need to book in advance?

We highly recommend booking ahead, especially for weekends and group bookings. Sometimes we have same-day availability on weekdays though!

Is there a weight limit?

No weight limit, just age (8+) and height requirements (1.2m for rage rooms, 1.4m for axe throwing).

We don't recommend rage rooms or axe throwing if you're pregnant. Safety first!
